The eDIT 9th Filmmaker’s Festival (24. – 26.9., Frankfurt) is marked, among other things, by major personalities from the VFX field: At the opening gala on 24.9., English director Terry Gilliam will be honoured with the “Festival Honors” alongside visual-effects veteran Ray Harryhausen. Harryhausen, the inventor of stop-motion technology, laid the foundation for the effects films of our time and influenced directors such as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson and James Cameron. Gilliam founded the legendary Monty Python troupe (“Life of Brian”) and, as a director, created fantastic, visually powerful film worlds (“12 Monkeys”, “Brazil”). In addition to the two, “Gollum” and “King Kong” actor Andy Serkis also receives an award – he will be presented with the Special Achievement Award.
On 25.9., Terry Gilliam will be seen in an on-stage interview in the “Festival Honors Salon” from 6 p.m. Directly afterwards, the organisers will show his new film “Tideland”, which in Germany has so far only been shown at the Munich Film Festival and does not yet have a distributor. Ray Harryhausen provides information about “The Art and Science of Animation” in an on-stage conversation on 26.9. from 6 p.m.
The festival program also provides insights into the production of numerous current feature films, including “Perfume”, “Hui Buh”, “Superman Returns” and “Poseidon”. Also being shown is the animated film “Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Hazen & Mr. Horlocker”, the multiple-award-winning diploma project of German animator and director Stefan Mueller.
