An update to version 2.5 gives the software for the Matrox Axio real-time HD and SD editing platforms new functions. The focus is on support for real-time editing of footage in the HDV 720p format, as generated by JVC’s 100 ProHD series cameras.
Other new features of version 2.5 are:
• native MXF file support for Panasonic P2, Sony XDCAM and Sony XDCAM HD in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects,
• support for Matrox HDV files and Matrox Flex CPU effects in Adobe After Effects,
• 4:2:2:4 (YUVA) MPEG-2 I-frame and uncompressed codecs in HD and SD,
• DVCPRO HD support at all 720p frame rates,
• Panasonic Vari-Cam support,
• improved performance in HDV editing,
• real-time mixing of additional formats on the timeline. With MXF, AVI, MPEG, HD in an SD timeline,
• real-time playback of native Adobe HDV files (.MPEG and .M2T),
• improved colour-correction tools,
• WYSIWYG video output for Adobe Bridge and Windows Media Player,
• Matrox EZ-MXF utility for native MXF file support in AVI applications,
• eight new effects: Crystallize, Cube, Impressionist, Lens Flare, Move & Scale, Old Movie, Ripple, Twirl.
“With this important new software version, we are building on the Axio’s comprehensive codec support for a broad range of cameras by expanding it to include native real-time editing of all 720p frame rates supported by JVC’s popular 100 ProHD series camera,” says Ankit Patel, product manager for Matrox Axio. “We are also going one step further and offering more than Adobe Premiere Pro software alone makes possible, and support the 50 and 59.94 frame rates offered by the new 200 and 250 ProHD series cameras.”
Axio version 2.5 is currently available as a beta version and is planned as a final version for October 2006. It will support all three platforms in the Axio product family: Axio LE, Axio HD and Axio SD.
There will also be a new software version for Matrox’ RT.X2 cards with the release number 2.0, which makes many of the new functions for the Axio platform available for them as well, above all support for native editing of JVC’s ProHD HDV 720p format in real time.

The Matrox RT.X2 came onto the market only a few weeks ago and costs 1,749 euros in a bundle with Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0. Software update 2.0 is planned for November.
