Students from around the world can now submit their work for the Adobe Design Achievement Award (ADAA). With the competition, now taking place for the seventh time, the software provider annually honors the most talented and promising designers, photographers, illustrators, animators and digital filmmakers at international universities.
This year, the company is accepting work from a total of 31 countries. For the first time, students from India, Croatia, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Hungary have the opportunity to submit their work. In addition, up-and-coming creatives from universities and colleges in Australia, Belgium, China, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Canada, Korea, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the USA continue to be called upon to participate in the competition with their work. “The Adobe Design Achievement Award is an honor for the best and most imaginative students from around the world who cross boundaries with their creative innovations,” says Ann Lewnes, Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Communications at Adobe. “With this competition, we want to support emerging design talent and underscore our commitment to design and film education.”
Until April 27, 2007, participants can submit their creative work online in the categories Animation, Digital Illustration, Digital Photography, Interactive and Web Design, Film and Video, Motion Graphics, Product and Packaging Design, Print Design Multi-page and Print Design Single-page. The winners of each category can look forward to prize money of 5,000 US dollars.
Following an initial selection phase, the semifinalists will be asked from May 2007 to send their projects directly to Adobe in the USA. All projects must have been created with Adobe creative solutions such as Creative Suite, Production Studio or Macromedia Studio. The submitted work will be evaluated by an independent jury. It consists of Carole Guevin (publisher of Netdiver.com), Jan Wilker (co-founder of karlssonwilker inc.), Armin Vit (founder of UnderConsideration), Sande Scoredos (Executive Director at Sony Pictures Imageworks), Andrew Lin (Vice President at Paramount Vantage) and Gaby Brink (co-founder of Templin Brink Design).
The jury assesses the submissions according to criteria such as originality and degree of implementation of the intended project goals. The finalists selected in this way will be invited to San Francisco, where they can participate in the awards ceremony on August 2, 2007 at the DeYoung Museum and present their work to a larger audience. The winners in the individual categories will also be announced there. All finalists receive a software package from Adobe and have the opportunity to exchange ideas with creative professionals during studio tours or complete an internship, for example as part of the Siggraph 2007 Guerilla Studios.
