Digital Rapids Adds AVC Encoding Module

The optional AVC Encoder module adds realtime H.264 encoding and faster-than-realtime file transcoding to Digital Rapids systems.

Digital Rapids has begun shipping AVC Encoder, an optional module for its StreamZ, StreamZHD and DRC-Stream encoding systems and Stream Transcode Manager distributed transcoding platform.

The encoder uses Nero Digital technology developed jointly by Nero and ATEME. Digital Rapids claims improved visual quality and substantially faster encoding. The module extends MPEG-4 and AVC/H.264 support across the Stream product family, encoding live SD sources in real time and transcoding files faster than real time.

AVC Encoder supports Baseline and Main profiles for AVC/H.264, Simple and Advanced Simple profiles for MPEG-4 Part 2, and AAC and High Efficiency AAC audio. These formats target delivery to PCs, mobile phones and portable video players including Apple’s iPod.

Digital Rapids AVC Encoder costs €495 excluding VAT and is distributed in Germany by Picturetools in Hamburg.
