Sonic Solutions has announced THDassign, an add-on for its Scenarist authoring systems that supports Warner Bros.’ Total Hi Def Disc. The format combines HD DVD and Blu-ray on one physical disc. Content producers can merge projects for both formats, placing HD DVD material on one side and Blu-ray content on the other for playback in the respective devices.
THD was proposed as a way to support high-definition disc releases while the competition between Blu-ray and HD DVD continued. Stephen Nickerson, Senior Vice President of Market Management at Warner Bros. Home Video, said Total Hi Def addressed studios that wanted to release content in the new HD formats but doubted that a single disc standard would prevail.
Sonic expected THDassign to become available in February 2007. The company had not announced pricing.
