Adobe is supplying the new Photoshop CS3 in two versions. While Photoshop CS3 has been further optimised for digital image editing, Photoshop CS3 Extended additionally includes tools for 3D editing and supports video workflows, animations and detailed image analysis. This expands the possibilities of digital image editing especially for users in architecture, mechanical engineering, medicine and science.

By supporting the most common 3D formats, creative professionals can render 3D content and integrate it into their two-dimensional compositions, while the texture can continue to be edited on the 3D models. With the optimised vanishing-point tool, designers can measure in perspective and export content to a 3D model. For use in video postproduction, video formats and layer support for frame-accurate editing of video files are now integrated into Photoshop CS3 Extended. The resulting video can then be exported in a variety of formats including Flash.

Other tools support users in areas such as manufacturing or medicine: the Measurement Log palette calculates a range of values in an image, the Scale Marker adds a scale graphic to an image, and the new counting function totals the marks contained in an image with a mouse click.

Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended are available both as individual products and as components of the expanded Creative Suite 3 product family (see separate report). The software runs as a Universal Binary application on PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs and supports Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Both new Photoshop versions are expected to be shipped to customers in the USA and Canada from April 2007. In Europe, the new products are to be available in specialist shops and in the Adobe Online Store in the 2nd quarter of 2007. The price of Photoshop CS3 is expected to be 899 euros and that of Photoshop CS3 Extended 1,349 euros (in each case excluding value-added tax).
