Blackmagic Design announces the worldwide availability of its Intensity Pro video capture card. The company advertises the product as a low-cost solution for high-quality video capture and playback.
According to the manufacturer, the PCI Express card is the first of its kind to combine HDMI capture and playback with interfaces for component, PAL, NTSC and S-Video. It can capture video signals directly from the HD camera’s image sensor, bypassing the video compression chip and thereby promising uncompressed, better image quality. “Now users can go beyond the quality limits of HDV in editing, design and authoring,” Blackmagic advertises. The card supports real-time effects in Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Adobe’s Premiere Pro. For monitoring, it can be connected to any large-format television or projector.
The Windows- and Mac OS X-compatible Intensity Pro was presented at NAB 2007 in April (DP reported) and was originally supposed to be available at that time. The card costs 349 US dollars.
