FileMaker 9 represents the biggest development leap in years with SQL connectivity and simple generation of PHP pages,” says Dominique Goupil, President at FileMaker. As of today, the English products FileMaker Pro 9, FileMaker Pro 9 Advanced, FileMaker Server 9 and FileMaker Server 9 Advanced are commercially available. German versions will be released on August 02, 2007.
FileMaker Pro 9 includes a multitude of new features for end users and developers to easily create or automate databases or share them with other FileMaker users. FileMaker’s proven ease of use is shown, among other things, in the newly introduced conditional formatting, through which selected data fields can be formatted in a user-defined way. With the new FileMaker Quick Start screen, favorite pages can easily be stored and videos in the FileMaker Learning Center can be accessed directly. There have also been some changes to the shared use of databases: with version 9, it is sufficient to e-mail a link to other FileMaker users that allows access to one’s own database with a simple click. New, highly developed yet still easy-to-use development and customization tools round off the portfolio.
FileMaker Server 9 and FileMaker Server 9 Advanced, with which workgroups can share databases over the network and web, come with a completely modernized admin console. FileMaker users can use it to easily set up and administer server software.
With the new PHP features of FileMaker Server and FileMaker Pro 9 Advanced, both users inexperienced with PHP and web developers can publish information on external websites, collect information about web visitors and create new solutions.
“The linking of FileMaker Pro 9 and the possibilities of MySQL will strengthen the developer and user communities of both product lines,” says Zack Urlocker, Executive Vice President of MySQL AB, pleased.
Using FileMaker Pro 9, users can now also access external SQL databases. Diverse and easy-to-use tools provide FileMaker users and workgroups with easy access to SQL data sources. Depending on sharing and authorization, data can be extracted and written back again. Whether the creation of reports, calculations or connection to additional data sets or existing FileMaker data – FileMaker Pro is a relief for both users and administrators. MySQL, Oracle SQL and Microsoft SQL Server are currently supported.
