Pinnacle Systems, an Avid Technology subsidiary providing consumer video-editing products, PC TV tuners and digital media adapters, has signed a European agreement with Panasonic. Panasonic HDC-DX1EG-S and HDC-SD1EG-S AVCHD camcorders will be bundled with Pinnacle Studio Plus 11. The offer begins immediately in Germany, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries and selected Eastern European markets.
The combination supports native-format HD editing. AVCHD requires less capacity on memory cards, hard drives or DVDs than traditional HDV material. Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus can also burn AVCHD movies to standard DVDs for playback on current Blu-ray HD players.
Pinnacle Senior Product Manager for Editing Markus Duerr said the two companies were working to make HD movie creation and playback accessible to consumers. He described Studio Plus as a package for capturing, editing and burning HD material.
AVCHD video format
AVCHD uses codec technology to record 1080i high-definition video for extended periods on DVDs or SD and SDHC memory cards. Panasonic and Sony jointly developed the format for digital HD camcorders, and professional filmmakers were already using it as an HD format.
Sven Dabelstein, Manager of Product Marketing at Panasonic Marketing Europe, said the combination with Pinnacle’s editing software was intended to provide consumers with a workflow for producing high-quality video.
Availability of Pinnacle Studio Plus 11
Purchasers of a Panasonic HDC-DX1EG-S or HDC-SD1EG-S AVCHD camcorder receive Pinnacle Studio Plus 11 at no additional cost. The method of obtaining the software varies by country. The bundle is available immediately for a limited period.
