The worldwide boom in online games continues: According to a current study by market researcher ComScore, 217 million unique visitors visited online gaming platforms in May of this year – 17 percent more than in the previous year, with almost a third of the recorded visitors coming from Europe. Karlsruhe-based Gameforge AG, a developer and publisher of so-called MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Games), recognized this trend at an early stage and was able to win the Polish Internet portal Onet.pl, one of the largest and best-known online platforms in Eastern Europe, for an exclusive partnership. As part of this strategic cooperation, the Gameforge subsidiary Gameforge Productions GmbH offers Polish versions of the online games bundled together on the new subportal gry.onet.pl/mmo.
With a monthly average of 9.7 million unique visitors, Onet.pl is the leading Internet and multimedia portal in Poland and thus occupies an outstanding position in the Eastern European region. The exclusive partnership now agreed between Gameforge Productions GmbH and Onet.pl provides for all MMOG from Gameforge that already exist in Polish and will be available in this language in the future to be offered exclusively on the new Polish subportal gry.onet.pl/mmo. The game content and customary free-of-charge nature compared to the German-language originals remains unchanged.
“With Onet.pl, we are getting a first-class partner at our side who will give us a strong boost in our expansion into Eastern Europe”, says Klaas Kersting, CEO of Gameforge AG, delighted. “The demand for our games in Poland shows us that we are producing high-quality and exciting games at the same time that are increasingly developing into export hits.”
As part of the market-leading TVN Group media group, Onet.pl appeals primarily to young people with content such as news and entertainment, sports, music, videos, communities and chats, and thus coincides with Gameforge’s core target group. The Internet portal’s nearly ten million monthly visitors generate more than 2.4 billion page impressions and thus make Onet.pl the undisputed market leader in the Polish online advertising market.
“Poland is currently one of the most important and attractive markets in terms of online gaming for Gameforge”, says Klaas Kersting. “And Onet.pl occupies such an outstanding position in its own country that it can at most be compared with Web.de and GMX.de taken together in this country.”
