Around 356,000 fans of the yellow cartoon heroes made the journey to Springfield over the weekend. No question that the Simpsons remain in first place in the media control cinema charts. Since the launch, around 3.4 million visitors have seen the cartoon characters’ first appearance on the big screen.
The shape-shifting “Transformers” fight their way to second place again. Director Michael Bay’s action spectacle was of interest to 254,000 cinemagoers. This halved the audience by more than half compared with the previous week.
Harry Potter was unable to exploit the weakness of the extraterrestrial machines and remains in third place. The magic of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” was enough to enchant a further 240,000 Hogwarts fans. Part five of the Potter series thus outstripped “Pirates Of The Caribbean 3” as the most successful film of the year. After just five weeks, the young wizard surpassed the six-million mark. Around 6.1 million visitors have seen the film so far.
The abilities of “Evan Almighty” were enough to secure fourth position. Just under 150,000 people saw the comedy with Morgan Freeman as God and Steve Carell as a modern Noah over the opening weekend.
In “Von Frau zu Frau”, Daphne Wilder (Diane Keaton) tries in vain to find the right man for her daughter (Mandy Moore). 103,000 film fans went to see the film by director Michael Lehmann – almost 10,000 more than last weekend. The comedy nevertheless drops one rank to fifth position.
