Kulabyte Adds H.264 to Express Encoders

Kulabyte’s Express encoder range adds Flash Player 9-compatible H.264 alongside VP6 and Windows Media 9/VC-1.

Texas encoding specialist Kulabyte will introduce new Express-series encoders at IBC in Amsterdam. The range extends from Kulabyte Express Lite, a transcoding application for dual-core laptops and desktop systems priced from US$395, to Kulabyte Express Enterprise, a scalable multiserver system for large networks priced from US$14,995.

The four-product Express range encodes SD and HD material and supports On2 VP6 for Adobe Flash, MainConcept H.264 compatible with Flash Player 9, and Microsoft Windows Media 9/VC-1.

“Our customers asked for HD quality at very high speed and multicodec support, and the new Express series provides that,” said Kulabyte co-founder and chief technical officer Chris Gottschalk. The range targets independent filmmakers, content aggregators, postproduction facilities, and media companies encoding large volumes of material.

Kulabyte Express Premier, priced from US$1,495, provides automated workflow transcoding and real-time capture encoding with streaming output. The manufacturer described it as immediately available. The complete range will be shown at IBC stand 6.111.
