At this year’s IBC, DVS is focusing not only on 4K, digital cinema, and partnerships, but also on broadcast. At stand 7.421, the company will address broadcaster requirements including turnkey HDTV systems, simulcast transmission, and archiving.
With a timetable now established for the migration to HDTV, television broadcasters are increasingly looking for suppliers of high-quality image-processing systems. Future tapeless broadcast systems must build on existing infrastructure while integrating new concepts. DVS is positioning its experience in HD postproduction as a basis for consulting and products that address the critical points of an HD transition.
In Amsterdam, DVS will show a product from its disk-recorder range for broadcast applications for the first time. The DVS ProntoXway disk recorder operates as a multichannel server that can record and play HDTV material simultaneously. It also enables broadcasters to run simulcast services, transmitting HD and SD material in parallel.
The move to tapeless broadcasting also changes archiving methods. DVS uses JPEG 2000 to compress and store the large volumes of high-resolution HDTV imagery required by broadcasters.
“The broadcast industry can rely on our solutions at both software and hardware level,” said DVS Managing Director Hans-Ulrich Weidenbruch. “At this year’s IBC, we are taking the opportunity to present our systems to television broadcasters in detail and provide informed support for their migration to HDTV.”
