“In my opinion, the technology used for broadcasting and reception must not overshadow the idea of dual broadcasting and thus also the share of public television and radio.” The Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate went on to say: “It must be clear that public broadcasters can and must participate in digital development.
Beck emphasised the information mandate of ARD and ZDF: “This is a task that has something to do with the responsible citizen, their ability to make decisions and their sovereignty in a democratic community.” He also spoke of the pioneering role of public broadcasters in promoting technology as well as the quality of the programme.
Beck emphasised the opportunities of digitalisation: “In my opinion, there will be no displacement. I believe that things will develop alongside each other and in combination with each other.” When asked about the role of politics in digitalisation, Beck said that efforts were being made to “enable developments.” It will be a matter of finding rules of the game together, “how a fair coexistence of the different offers can exist.” However, the business models would have to be developed by the broadcasters, cable network and satellite operators themselves.
