ZDF News Studios Target Late 2008 Launch

ZDF’s Mainz news complex will house two digital studios serving television, internet and mobile-TV output from late 2008.

ZDF reached the structural-completion stage of its new digital news-studio building in Mainz.

The 2,907-square-metre facility stood west of the existing broadcast building and connected to it through a passage. Main production functions occupied the ground floor, with technical services above and below.

Two studios were planned. The larger room would operate continuously for heute, heute-journal, ZDF-Mittagsmagazin, ZDFwochen-journal, logo and blickpunkt.

A smaller studio would handle special programmes, ZDF Spezial and output for the broadcaster’s information channel.

The digital infrastructure was designed to supply television, internet and mobile-TV platforms. Broadcasting from the new complex was scheduled to begin at the end of 2008.

Axthelm designed the building, while ZDF’s facility-management and information-systems divisions directed the project.
