Sonnet Adds FireWire 800 and USB Ports

The Tango Express 800 PCIe card adds three FireWire 800 and three USB 2.0 ports for Mac Pro, Power Mac G5, Xserve and Windows PCs.

Sonnet Technologies introduced the Tango Express 800 PCI Express adapter for professional audio and video systems.

The card provided two external and one internal FireWire 800 port, plus two external and one internal USB 2.0 port. Direct connections allowed devices to use the available interface bandwidth without sharing a hub.

FireWire ports were backward-compatible with FireWire 400 through an adapter cable, while USB supported USB 1.1 devices. The card allowed hot swapping and simultaneous use of low-, full- and high-speed peripherals. It also supported FireWire Target Disk Mode.

Compatible systems included Mac Pro, PCI Express Power Mac G5 and Xserve computers, and Windows PCs with a PCI Express slot. Supported operating systems were Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later, Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista.

The Tango Express 800, model FW8USB2-E, was immediately available at a recommended retail price of €119 including VAT.
