Kaspersky Lab integrates PhishTank database into Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0

Kaspersky Lab is now integrating the PhishTank database into the anti-phishing module of Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0. The PhishTank service from the Californian company OpenDNS collects known phishing websites in a database that is constantly updated by the international open-source community. Kaspersky Lab has also been actively participating in this project for some time and supplements the PhishTank database with its own information about phishing sites.

Until now, the data from the “Anti-Phishing Working Group”, of which Kaspersky Lab is a member, was the main source of the antiphishing database in Kaspersky Lab’s products. In addition, information from a number of other sources is used, including the security services of financial institutions that independently monitor phishing sites.

“In a short time, PhishTank has developed into a powerful resource that makes a major contribution to the fight against online fraudsters,” explains Andreas Lamm, managing director of Kaspersky Labs GmbH. “The antiphishing data from PhishTank give us the opportunity to protect our customers even more effectively against attacks by cybercriminals.”

Only in summer 2007, Kaspersky Lab received the “Star Phish Award” from PhishTank as “recognition for the contribution in the fight against phishing”.
