Apple scheduled Mac OS X Server 10.5 Leopard for release on 26 October 2007 with more than 250 new features. Podcast Producer, Wiki Server and iCal Server were the principal additions.
Podcast Producer automated recording, server transfer, encoding and publication of podcasts for devices including HD televisions, iPod, Apple TV and multimedia-capable phones. Wiki Server provided 20 themes, revision history, version comparison and change notifications.
The CalDAV-based iCal Server supported compatible calendar clients without per-user licence fees. Server Assistant configured applications, IP addressing and DNS, while Server Preferences managed users, groups and core services. A Server Status Dashboard widget exposed remote activity and usage monitoring.
Apache 2, MySQL 5, Postfix, Podcast Producer and QuickTime Streaming Server ran as 64-bit services. Leopard Server retained native 32-bit compatibility so both application types could run side by side.
Supported hardware included Intel Macs and PowerPC G5 or G4 systems at 867 MHz or faster. The server required at least 1 GB of RAM and 20 GB of available storage.
