King.com is one of the most successful provider of online games in the United Kingdom and occupies 20th place on the list of the fastest-growing technology companies in the country.
The company, founded in 2003 by Toby Rowland and Riccardo Zacconi, is today one of the world’s largest providers of online games of skill, so-called casual games. King.com employs around 40 people worldwide. In the period between 2004 and 2006 alone, Rowland and Zacconi managed to increase revenue from 1.6 million pounds (2.3 million euros) to over 13 million pounds (around 19 million euros).
The concept is as simple as it is successful: In over 50 games, including classics such as Tetris, Sudoku or Solitaire, but also games for TV shows such as „Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and „Deal or No Deal”, around 13 million players worldwide currently compete against one another in short tournaments. More than 80 million tournaments are completed each month in this way. King.com is completely advertising-free and is financed exclusively through a playing fee that becomes due when two players play a tournament for money.
„We are delighted that we have been listed in the renowned TECH TRACK 100 for the first time. This confirms to us that we are on the right course with King.com,” explains Riccardo Zacconi, co-founder and co-managing director of King.com. „Our success becomes even clearer if one looks at the revenue development from 2003 to 2005, because here King.com recorded an increase of 20,900 percent, for which we were recently honored with the ‘Media Momentum Award’,” says Zacconi.
The Sunday Times Microsoft TECH TRACK 100 lists the 100 fastest-growing British companies from the technology and telecommunications sector as well as companies from the field of digital media every year. The TECH TRACK 100 is determined by the British market research institute Fast Track.
