Wacom introduced the Cintiq 12WX, a hybrid combining direct-on-screen Cintiq input with the compact dimensions of an Intuos3 pen tablet. The device measured 405 × 270 × 17 mm and weighed 2 kg.
Its 12.1-inch display provided 1,280 × 800 WXGA resolution, 24-bit colour and a 170-degree viewing angle. Wacom targeted concept design, storyboarding, detailed illustration, retouching and image compositing.
Positioning and display layouts
An integrated stand supported a 25-degree working angle, a 65-degree viewing position and flat use on a desk or lap. When flat, the tablet could rotate to suit the artist’s working position.
Cintiq 12WX could operate as the only monitor or as an additional display in a multi-monitor setup. Display Toggle switched pen control between connected screens at the press of a button.
Programmable controls
Two groups of five programmable ExpressKeys came preset for frequently used modifiers and functions including Control, Alt, Shift, Space and Display Toggle. Touch Strips provided finger-controlled scrolling and zooming in compatible applications.
Pen performance and colour management
The battery-free, cordless Grip Pen delivered 5,080 lines per inch and 1,024 pressure levels for both tip and eraser. The display detected pen tilt up to 60 degrees and supported other Intuos3 input tools. Tool ID allowed compatible software to distinguish individual devices when they entered the active area.
Each unit shipped with a colour profile and supported calibration systems from Datacolor, X-Rite and basicolor. Connections included VGA and DVI-I. Corel Painter Essentials was bundled.
Wacom priced the Cintiq 12WX at €1,189 including VAT, with availability planned for November 2007.
