DP: Why a new logo for Wacom, then?
Stoffels: The new logo is the result of our new strategy. It is a symbol of change, and that is the most important thing.
DP: Wacom has given itself a new vision. What lies behind the words “Open Up, Sense More”?
Stoffels: Our new motto is “Open Up, Sense More.” That is our core idea, the basis on which all our work will build, whether in the area of product development or in the area of our own company. It reflects our fundamental attitude of approaching tasks from different perspectives and being open.
DP: Will Wacom remain a provider of pen-based tablets?
Stoffels: We certainly will not leave our base. We come from the creative professional area and have built a good reputation here. The next products, which will appear soon, consolidate this base.
DP: Wacom is celebrating its 25th birthday. Where does one come from? Where does one stand? Where does one want to go?
Stoffels: We started as a pure technology company. From that, we developed products for small niche markets. Our digitizer found its way into the creative professional area. Here we fully developed our products. Now we are expanding the concept and turning to the mass market. Today it is no longer the privilege of the professional to use this technology in order to be creative; consumers can use it as well. The next step is devices both for professionals and consumers, but not only with tablets. The concepts will expand and become more varied.
