Good start for the first digital creation days with many photos

The first digital creation days, which took place from November 8 to 9, focused on computer-generated images for film, Internet, advertising, computer games, industry and architecture. 1,400 professional visitors from all over Germany met at the networking event at the Karlsruhe Convention Center to learn about and exchange views on trends in computer graphics and animation. In around 50 workshops and presentations, industry experts primarily examined developments in the German-speaking region. The most important prize for computer graphics and animation, the animago AWARD, was presented for the first time as part of a ceremonial evening event on the occasion of the digital creation days.

„The digital media production industry is growing. Especially in the areas of film, television, Internet, advertising, architecture and computer games, new fields of work are emerging due to new software applications. Many companies are currently urgently looking for skilled workers and specialists. With the digital creation days, we have launched an event that examines this boom and offers the creative industry a new platform. In our Recruiting Area, companies entered into conversation with potential employees“, explains Gerald Böse, Managing Director of Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress-GmbH.

KMK organized the first digital creation days together with the specialist magazine DIGITAL PRODUCTION.

„The concept of the digital creation days worked out. The top-class workshops, the trade exhibition, the Recruiting Area and the presentation of the animago AWARD brought the creative minds from the various industry areas to Karlsruhe. Entrepreneurs and visitors were able to make new contacts and exchange ideas as part of the event“, says Jürgen Pfister, Project Manager of the digital creation days from Reed Business Information GmbH. The two-day specialist event was supported by Avid, Qoobee and Softimage

Bully Herbig receives honorary prize at the animago AWARD

Among the highlights of the two-day event was the ceremonial presentation of the animago AWARD. This year, the animago AWARD was organized for the eleventh time by the specialist magazine DIGITAL PRODUCTION – with the kind support of main sponsor Autodesk –. As early as 1997, DIGITAL PRODUCTION, together with Autodesk, launched the animago AWARD

In the stylish setting of the Karlsruhe Concert Hall, 700 visitors watched the presentation of the most important prize for computer graphics and animation in the German-speaking region on site; more than 200 interested people were connected via the Internet. In total, entries were received from 35 different countries worldwide.

The animago AWARD „Honorary Prize“ went to Bully Herbig because of his services to the German animation and visual effects industry. Through the consistent use of digital effects and CG animation technology produced in Germany in cinema productions from “Shoe of Manitou” through “(T)Spaceship Surprise” to “Lissi and the Wild Emperor”, he not only enhanced his films visually and narratively, but also demonstrated the creativity and international competitiveness of artists working in this country. Bully thanked the audience by video message. This year, the legendary animago Party again followed the animago award ceremony, with industry networking in the foreground. The event was – supported by Visual Acting as well as DropIn-TV – broadcast live over the Internet at https://www.animago.com/live.

Trade exhibition with Recruiting Area

25 companies showed their digital solutions for 2-D, and 3-D visualizations, video, postproduction at the digital creation days. The big names in the industry such as Avid, Autodesk and Mackevision were also represented. In a specially designated exhibition area, the Recruiting Area, and in presentations at the trade exhibition, several companies also presented themselves to potential employees and conducted job interviews on site.

From Karlsruhe, for example, the company tema presented itself. „We produce advertising films, business TV, trade-fair films and documentaries. As a Karlsruhe company, we naturally took the opportunity to present ourselves here at the digital creation days“, said Regina Käuper from tema, film & corporate communication.

„We had very good and important discussions here at the digital creation days with visitors, but also with competitors and colleagues from the industry. In addition, several applicants who are suitable for future employment at our company also introduced themselves at our booth“, explains Torsten Timm, Managing Director of digi mice Medienproduktion Neu-Isenburg, which was represented with his company in the Recruiting Area.

Tips and tricks from the professionals in the workshop program

In the approximately 50 workshops, experts from the industry presented business models and introduced new applications. There was a particularly large rush, for example, at Andrea Gunschera’s presentation on „Photorealistic Product Visualization in the Automotive Sector“. Many visitors came with specific questions, among other things, to the workshop „How do I found my own 3-D company?“.

Florian Keim, prospective media computer scientist from Furtwangen University, did not miss the workshop program: „I would like to attend a presentation on broadcasting and media technology. But the Recruiting Area is also attractive to me.“
