The partnership’s goal is a convergent application that enables PC users to watch mass-market TV channels such as ARD and ZDF alongside specialist channels, either as a 24/7 programme or on demand. The MimundoTV player extends Grid-TV’s successful business model with new forms of advertising and end-customer communication. In addition to individual web presences, Grid-TV will create genre portals within the MimundoTV player that are fully tailored to customer requirements.
The new service offers an integrated media guide (EPG) and a search function across all media. New interactive services such as voting, interactive advertising, network-based PVR, and communication services including VoIP and chats will be combined with user-generated community content. The partners planned to present the first applications of the hybrid-TV solution at CeBIT 2008. At the same time, new forms of advertising measures for platform partners were to be developed.
“The convergence of broadband, internet and TV content has begun and will dramatically affect consumer behaviour,” said Timon Lutze, Director of Mimundo Concept. “We have developed a player that meets consumers’ interests and wishes in the future, offering genuine added value alongside live TV, including interactivity and specialist channels,” Lutze added.
“With this partnership, we are expanding the service for our business customers,” said Katharina Aliaga, CEO of Grid-TV AG. “We distribute more than 200 channels through our reliable and stable platform. We are seeing internet-TV usage grow at an exponential rate,” Aliaga said. “The greatest challenge is the user-friendliness of the services. We are meeting that challenge by providing this next-generation player. Whether it is interactivity or switching between different media, this player meets every expectation.”
