Alongside the successful P.R.I.M.E and Pygmalion training programmes, the company intends to offer more services to film producers in coaching, consulting and financing. Its focus is on bringing interactive and traditional formats together at an early stage. “PRIMEHOUSE stands for bridging film, TV and interactive media. We want to use our established network in the future to develop offerings that support producers and distributors in the different market segments with financing and marketing during project development,” Frank Stehling said of the company’s new direction. Specifically, PRIMEHOUSE planned to add a new “Finance” module to its established training module in 2008. “In this way, we want to offer producers the opportunity to implement the results of the training programmes through appropriate development financing,” Stehling added.
PRIMEHOUSE GmbH’s move towards cross-media activities and content also results from practical experience of the film industry’s requirements through the European P.R.I.M.E training programme. Initiated in early 2006 by Swiss foundation FOCAL, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the Austrian Film Institute, the programme is aimed at independent European film and television producers. At the early project-development stage, it brings together international experts from the film and games industries and involves them in evaluating film projects.
A recent P.R.I.M.E success story in this context—and one that also underlines PRIMEHOUSE’s new core competence—is the parallel development of an adventure game for the new two-part adaptation of “Treasure Island”, broadcast on Pro7 on November 26 and 27. Janus Film’s participation in P.R.I.M.E training in 2006 brought “Treasure Island” producer Ivo Alexander Beck together with P.R.I.M.E expert Andre Blechschmidt of game developer Radon Labs, laying the foundation for production of the TV movie and a corresponding adventure game. Ivo Alexander Beck, managing director of Janus Film GmbH, said: “European film needs more companies such as PRIMEHOUSE that, beyond traditional financing models, strengthen contact with the booming entertainment industry and its diverse interactive media and formats. In this respect, Frank Stehling’s company founding sends exactly the right signal.”
The current P.R.I.M.E 2007 programme was to conclude in Berlin from November 28 to December 2, alongside the European Film Awards. On this occasion, the newly founded PRIMEHOUSE GmbH invited attendees to a presentation of current projects on Thursday, November 29, at 7:30 p.m. at Kantstraße 31.
