QuarkCopyDesk 7 is a text- and image-editing application for writers, editors and other publishing staff. It shares a code base with QuarkXPress 7, displays the same designed pages, and preserves style sheets, colours, article geometry, hyphenation and paragraph-alignment rules when documents move between the two applications. Text exchange also supports Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, XPress Tags and HTML.
The new image functions import every format supported by QuarkXPress, including native Photoshop files. Users can scale, crop, rotate and mirror images, adjust contrast and brightness, and apply blur, masking and correction filters through a contextual measurements palette.
Split windows divide the interface horizontally or vertically and show content simultaneously in galley, full-screen or WYSIWYG views. Changes in one view update the others automatically.
Output profiles and profile groups can insert metadata into output using internal placeholders. Profiles for print, PDF and article XML can be combined into groups and generated in multiple formats with one command.
A Notes XTension stores annotations directly with articles. Redlining tracks changes in multi-user environments while showing writers, editors and reviewers the article geometry so they can see whether revised copy still fits the assigned layout.
QuarkCopyDesk 7 also works with Quark Publishing System 7, the collaborative workflow platform released in October 2007. QPS 7 uses an open-standards architecture intended to connect with existing business systems and additional publishing modules.
