Even though IPTV is becoming increasingly widespread, the study also found that by the end of 2012 only 3.1% of households worldwide with TV reception will make use of the possibility of IPTV.
Adam Thomas, Media Research Manager at Informa, says: “By the end of 2007, we expect 10.6 million IPTV households. That is twice as many as in 2006. At that time, there were just 5.3 million”
Revenue generated with IPTV amounted to 1.5 billion US dollars in 2006. This applies to subscriptions and video on demand. By 2012, revenue is expected to grow to as much as 14.7 billion US dollars. 1.1 billion US dollars of this results from video-on-demand offerings.

In China, the largest number of households, 6.63 million, will receive IPTV in 2012, followed by the USA (4.89 million), France (4.17), Japan (3.14) and Germany (2.56). In market penetration, Hong Kong will lead with 46.7 percent. The pursuing field comes significanly behind with France (18.1 percent), Taiwan (14.8 percent), Singapore (10.5 percent) and Norway (9.6 percent). In revenue, the United States will be able to put itself at the top of the list. 3.1 billion US dollars is forecast here. Japan will take second place with 2 billion US dollars, followed by France (1.40), Italy (1.08) and Germany with 904 million.
