“I would rather make a film about someone walking his dog than about the Emperor of China”, Jarmusch once said about his choice of material. Nevertheless, the film prodigy from Ohio has never written or filmed everyday stories. With unagitated images and long takes, Jarmusch instead gives the viewer the impression of being part of every film or of the director’s own world.
Already in his directorial debut “Permanent Vacation” – here the all-round talent was also responsible for screenplay, production, editing and music – Jarmusch shapes his relaxed style: The 16-year-old teenager Allie, whose father has left the family and whose mother is in a mental institution, wanders dreamily through the hectic streets of Manhattan. Searching for meaning in his life, the loner crosses the paths of various eccentric people. KinoweltTV will show Jarmusch’s debut at the finale of its director special on January 22 at 12:20 a.m.
