«We are still well on schedule», a spokesman for Balda AG said on Tuesday in Bad Oeynhausen. He did not want to give details. In September, Balda had announced that it wanted to give up the production of mobile phone housings in Europe and concentrate more strongly on the business with touch-sensitive screens («touch screen»). The company is regarded as a supplier for Apple’s «iPhone» mobile phone.
Following a collapse in profits in the first half of the year, mobile phone supplier Balda cut its forecast for 2007.
Interested parties for the Balda Solutions Europe division, said the spokesman. At the end of October, Balda CEO Joachim Gut had spoken of «realistic chances» of concluding a deal by the end of the year.
In the first nine months of 2007, Balda had sharply increased revenue in its continuing operations. Compared with the same period of the previous year, revenue rose by 61.3 percent to 172.3 million euros, while earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) rose to 9.8 million euros. In the previous year, a loss of 7.0 million euros had been incurred.
