The seventh GC – Games Convention will take place at the Leipzig Trade Fair grounds from August 21 to 24, 2008. Preparations for Europe’s largest games event are already in full swing. With a new tube between exhibition halls 4 and 5, Leipziger Messe is currently expanding its exhibition grounds. The aim of the conversion work is more flexible management of visitor flows. “The number of visitors to the GC has risen continuously in recent years. This year it was already more than 185,000. In addition, there is a long dwell time in the public halls. In order to ensure a relaxed trade fair visit for the many games fans in future as well, we decided to build an additional passage”, explains Peggy Schönbeck, project director of the GC, regarding the reason for the construction work. The tube will be completed at the beginning of August, in time for the start of the GC – Games Convention 2008.
In addition to the structural changes, there will also be innovations in hall occupancy. Thus, in the coming year, the GC Business Center will extend for the first time across the entire Congress Center Leipzig (CCL), exhibition hall 1 and part of exhibition hall 2. This will provide exhibitors with a total of 35,000 square metres (2006: 30,000 square metres) to establish contacts with national and international trade, publishers, developers and media representatives. The GC Business Center is the trade visitor centre of the games fair. In a relaxed atmosphere, business negotiations are conducted here and orders for the forthcoming Christmas business are placed. At GC 2007, exhibitors from 29 countries presented themselves in the GC Business Center.
Review of GC 2007
The GC – Games Convention has taken place at the Leipzig Trade Fair grounds since August 2002 and has since developed into Europe’s leading trade fair for interactive entertainment, infotainment, edutainment and hardware. With 503 exhibitors from 46 countries (2006: 374 exhibitors from 24 countries) and 185,000 visitors (2006: 183,000), the fair achieved a new record result this year. The GC was also a highlight in the media. 3,395 journalists from 46 countries (2006: 2,610 journalists from 38 countries) reported on the 225 world, European and German premieres at GC 2007.
