Autodesk will show Toxik running on Mac for the first time at Macworld in San Francisco in mid-January. The company stressed that the demonstration is a technology preview rather than a finished product or launch.
Toxik would extend Autodesk’s high-end compositing tools to the Mac. Combustion was already available on the platform but had experienced performance limitations compared with its Windows edition.
A Mac edition of Toxik would compete with Apple Shake. Apple had acquired Shake but had not released a major successor. Its rumoured replacement carried the codename Phenomenon, although no release had been confirmed.
