Microsoft at CeBIT 2008: Debut for New Windows Servers

Bakery at the main stand in Hall 4 shows the importance of IT for small companies and craft businesses.

At CeBIT 2008 – March 4 to 9 – Microsoft, together with more than 60 partners, is showing innovative products and complete solutions for companies and private users under the motto “people ready software”. These include Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, Office Communications Server 2007, Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 Visual Studio 2008 and Windows Home Server. In addition to main stand A26 in Hall 4, the company is represented with a security stand in Hall 6, E12, as well as in SOA&BPM World, the CRM Arena and at various partner stands. At the main stand, in addition to new products, Microsoft is also presenting current offerings from its IT Fitness initiative and, using a bakery built at the stand, showing that information technology plays an essential role in all professions – whether baker or banker.

Enterprise solutions

Several products from the server-infrastructure sector are celebrating their CeBIT debut: Microsoft Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 and the Microsoft System Center family, as well as Visual Studio 2008 and the .NET Framework 3.5.

Three new members of the 2007 Microsoft Office System can also be seen at CeBIT: Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS), Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 (PPS) and Search Server 2008 Express.

Microsoft developed “Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur” especially for companies with up to 50 employees. The new software is based on the enterprise resource planning software Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision). Also new at CeBIT: The medium-sized-business software Microsoft Dynamics AX 5.0 with special extensions for service companies, cross-location functions and better integration with other Microsoft products.

To make the importance of IT clear for small companies too, a bakery is is set up at the Microsoft main stand throughout the entire trade fair, impressively showing how much IT even production in traditional craft businesses requires today.

Offerings for consumers

In the “Digital Lifestyle” area, private users experience the new possibilities of the networked Digital Lifestyle. These include around 40 new design PCs and devices such as cameras, MP3 players and smartphones. Together with hardware partners, Microsoft is presenting Windows Home Server. It manages, stores and backs up all digital data on the home network.

Social responsibility

On the final two days of the trade fair, the IT Fitness Campus encourages school pupils, students and trainees to get fit in the use of computers and the Internet in a playful way. The IT Fitness Campus is a joint offering from Deutsche Messe AG and the IT Fitness initiative (www.it-fitness.de).

Solutions for public institutions

With the Modern Administrative Workplace, users can access and edit information and process data in existing specialist procedures directly from the Office environment. Microsoft is presenting current further developments and reference projects for use by federal, state and municipal authorities and the healthcare industry.

Security

At security stand E12 in Hall 6, Microsoft is presenting innovative security solutions – from protecting private users, through provisioning an identity with printing a smart card, through all Forefront solutions, to testing products such as an RMS-protected document (Rights Management System) on a Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone.
