Premiere is taking over 100 percent of youth channel Giga Digital, thereby extending its programme offering beyond pay TV into free TV. The channel, which specialises in Digital Lifestyle, Games and eSports, primarily appeals to a younger audience. Giga Digital broadcasts on digital television and the Internet. The channel puts its technical reach at 22 million viewers – according to its own figures, it reaches more than eleven million households. A live Internet stream would reach 100 percent of the target group.
At Premiere, Wolfram Winter, Managing Director of Premiere Star, is initially responsible for the new commitment responsibly. The Munich media company is acquiring the shares from Cuneo AG, NBC Universal, Wellington Partners and Atlas Ventures. According to Premiere, the Federal Cartel Office has already approved the takeover.
“Premiere and Giga Digital have a great deal in common,” Winter states: “Both are pioneers in digitisation and are very active both in traditional television and on the Internet. And the growing young Giga community is naturally also interested in exclusive sports broadcasts and the latest blockbusters that are available only on Premiere.” Premiere’s objective is to maintain the channel’s successful course and further expand Giga’s existing major potential.
