The previous weekend, US major studio Warner Brothers had also rejected a dual-format strategy and announced its decision in favour of Blu-ray technology. With this landmark decision, the leading US film company contributed to urgently needed clarity and accelerated the end of the “format war” that had continued for years.
Franz Woodtli, Home Entertainment Board Member at Constantin Film AG, said: “With our decision for the Blu-ray format, we are clearly aligning ourselves with international developments. The years-long dispute over the successor to DVD created noticeable uncertainty among consumers, especially in 2007, and delayed the introduction of high definition into the mainstream. A clear positioning therefore brings advantages for consumers, producers and retailers.”
