Horror film The Mist opened at number six with 61,000 viewers. After The Woman in the Room, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, director Frank Darabont had adapted a Stephen King story for the fourth time.
The Kite Runner entered one place below with 55,000 visitors; Marc Forster adapted Khaled Hosseini’s novel about the friendship between Amir and Hassan in wartime Afghanistan.
I Am Legend, starring Will Smith, remained number one with nearly 500,000 visitors in its second week, around half its opening-weekend audience. Til Schweiger’s Keinohrhasen stayed second with 421,000 cinemagoers, followed by Alvin and the Chipmunks and Enchanted.
