United Keys and Foxconn announced plans to sell their first OLED-key keyboard by summer 2008. The gaming keyboard’s function keys incorporated mini displays, allowing both assignments and displays to be freely programmed; no specific price was announced, though the companies said it would be affordable.
United Keys developed keys with integrated OLED displays and said it held patents covering Display-Key control and software interaction. Foxconn, a contract manufacturer, produced keyboards for brands including Logitech and Microsoft.
The display keys were intended to improve usability by showing application-specific functions, macros, actions and game icons. Sony had recently shown an OLED television at CES, while Art.Lebedev’s Optimus Maximus keyboard provided a comparable individually configurable-key concept but cost around €1,250.
