From February 4, 2008, further parts of Austria will be served exclusively by digital terrestrial television. Specifically, the switchover affects the Goldeck / Spittal an der Drau and Koralpe / Wolfsberg transmission facilities in Carinthia, the Wachberg/Weitra, Galgenberg/Poysdorf, Hartberg/Baden and Zwettl transmitters in Lower Austria, as well as the
Seegrube/Innsbruck, Hohe Salve/Hopfgarten and Rauchkofel/Lienz in Tyrol. From next Monday, DVB-T scrolling banners will once again provide precise information to all viewers affected by one of these switchovers.
Scrolling banners indicate conversion requirement
Consumers who see scrolling banners inserted into the ORF 1 and ORF 2 or ATV programmes from January 14 must switch to digital reception within the next three weeks. Anyone who does not see the scrolling banner is not affected by the switchover.
“Antenna households” must convert
The switchover to digital terrestrial television affects all TV viewers who receive ORF1 and ORF2 as well as ATV via antenna. This also includes all households that operate analogue satellite and use it to receive foreign programmes. For households that watch television via cable or digital satellite with a green ORF smartcard, no conversion steps are necessary as a result of the switchover to DVB-T.
Consumers who use second and third sets should ensure that these too are equipped for digital reception, in other words that they have either DVB-T or cable or digital-satellite reception.
