The two Secret Service agents Thomas Barnes (DENNIS QUAID) and Kent Taylor (MATTHEW FOX) are assigned to protect the President of the United States (WILLIAM HURT) during an important summit in Salamanca, Spain, where he intends to deliver a groundbreaking speech on the war on terror. Events come thick and fast when the President is shot shortly after arriving on the podium and numerous people are killed in a bomb explosion a short time later.

In the mass panic that follows, the fates of several eyewitnesses cross. Among them are an American tourist standing in the crowd (FOREST WHITAKER), who happened to capture the decisive seconds on video, and TV producer Rex (SIGOURNEY WEAVER), sitting in her outside-broadcast van and watching the assassination live on the monitors. VANTAGE POINT describes the dramatic events from the differing perspectives of several people. And only after seeing the same 15 minutes immediately before and shortly after the attack from the viewpoint of each of these people does one begin to suspect what terrifying truth actually lies behind the assassination.
