From midnight, E! reporters Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic will be on the red carpet to interview stars and starlets.
The Western thriller ‘No Country for Old Men’ enters this year’s Oscar race as the favourite. When the nominations were announced, the work by Joel and Ethan Coen received no fewer than eight nods. Close behind are the British film ‘Atonement’ with seven nominations and the oil-prospecting drama ‘There Will Be Blood’ with six mentions.
Among those hoping for the title of Best Actor are George Clooney (‘Michael Clayton’), Daniel Day-Lewis (‘There Will Be Blood’) and Johnny Depp (‘Sweeney Todd’). In the women’s category, Cate Blanchett (‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’), Marion Cotillard (‘La Vie en Rose’) and Julie Christie (‘Away from Her’), among others, are competing for the golden statuette.
Oscar fans will also get their money’s worth on KinoweltTV: from 6:35 pm, the arthouse film channel in the Kabel Digital Home package will show six films that have won a total of 25 Oscars. They include Bertolucci’s ‘The Last Emperor’ (nine Academy Awards in 1988, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography) and director Anthony Minghella’s ‘The English Patient’ (also honoured with nine ‘golden boys’ in 1997).
