Autodesk receives technical Oscar for Maya Fluid Effects system

The developers of Maya’s Fluid Effects system were honoured with the Technical Achievement Awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Autodesk announced this today. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences annually presents the well-known Oscar film award. Maya’s Fluid Effects system enables artists to create realistic animations of liquids and gases. Novel simulation methods provide greater accuracy and rapid processing, while a unique scripting language also enables work with volumetric data.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has now announced its nominations for the 80th Academy Awards. The western thriller “No Country for Old Men” enters this year’s Oscar race as the favourite. Joel and Ethan Coen’s work received eight nominations when they were announced. Close behind are the British film “Atonement” with seven nominations and the oil-prospecting drama “There Will Be Blood” with six.
