with Microsoft Windows XP preinstalled. ASUS thus offers EeePC users even more flexibility by allowing them to use their familiar Windows XP environment, including Microsoft Works and Windows Live, on the “mini PC”. Common software and corresponding applications that require Windows XP are now as easy to install on the EeePC as Internet access (Excellent Internet), mobile entertainment (Entertainment-On-The-Go) and the EeePC’s characteristic application areas (Easy to Learn, to Work, to Play).
Microsoft Windows XP Experience
With the Windows XP operating system preinstalled, the EeePC offers a simple, flexible and secure basis for using applications and services optimised for Windows XP. Microsoft Works is also included. This is a simple office package providing users with word processing, spreadsheets, database management and scheduling.
Windows Live – trendy Live-Style
In addition to classic Windows XP applications, EeePC users can access Windows Live functions. Windows Live comprises a range of Internet services and software that enable users to organise their own online world more efficiently and securely. One of its core functions is Windows Live Mail. This email client can manage the Windows Live Mail inbox and other email accounts so that users do not have to log in multiple times. Windows Live Messenger enables straightforward chats with friends around the world. Windows Live Photo Gallery makes it easy to put photographs online and archive them there or send them to family. The Windows Live OneCare Family Safety security solution is also included, enabling parents, for example, to block certain websites for their children.
ASUS and Microsoft reaffirm their cooperation
“Since its market launch at the end of last year, the EeePC has generated incredible enthusiasm worldwide,” says Jonathan Tsang, Vice Chairman of ASUS. “Today’s introduction of the Windows XP model is an important strategic step for us. On the one hand, we want to provide EeePC users with expanded application possibilities, maximum flexibility and optimised online functions. On the other, our aim is to reach passionate Windows users and offer them their familiar user interface.”
Will Poole, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential Group, adds: “Technology is an important foundation for social and professional life around the world. Yet today nearly five billion people still live without access to one of the world’s most important sources of information: the Internet. By introducing the EeePC with Windows, ASUS is making Windows applications and services accessible to millions of people at an incredibly low price. This enables us to work, communicate, learn and play over the Internet quickly, easily and inexpensively.”
It could not be easier: Easy to Learn, to Play, to Work
The ASUS EeePC is a globally unique PC concept and the pioneer of a new generation of mobile Internet devices that are highly portable thanks to their low weight and easy to use even without prior knowledge. EeePC also stands for a new computer concept aimed at making the digital lifestyle easier at home and on the move and opening it up to new target groups.
