equinux releases The Tube 2.5 with the free TubeToGo web service

equinux today introduced The Tube 2.5 with the TubeToGo web service. The Tube users can now publish their TV recordings in a web gallery, watch them over the Internet and schedule recordings while on the move. The TubeToGo web interface can be used to manage the entire recording archive in The Tube and publish it in the TubeToGo web gallery.

With TubeToGo, The Tube users have Internet access at any time to all TV recordings on their Mac at home. Through the TubeToGo interface, recorded programmes can be published in a web gallery for later viewing on the move over a WiFi connection on an iPhone, iPod touch or through a Safari web browser. TubeToGo includes an EPG through which recordings can be scheduled while away from home.

After each recording, The Tube 2.5 automatically synchronises the data with TubeToGo. Through the web interface, users can also delete recordings and remove them from the web gallery. For online storage of video data, TubeToGo works with both .Mac and any other FTP server. A fast Internet connection is required to play the film data on an iPhone, iPod touch or Safari web browser.

Further new functions and improvements

The Tube 2.5 displays other The Tube users’ current viewing figures live as a percentage and marks the television channel. Viewers can automatically follow the channel with the highest viewing figures. If the viewing share changes, The Tube automatically switches to the currently most popular channel. Smart Zoom 2 is aimed at users who follow television on their screen while doing other things: when the pointer moves over the reduced television picture, The Tube automatically zooms the view to a predefined window size. As soon as the pointer moves outside the active television picture, The Tube reduces the window to its original size again. The Tube also has a new TV engine that delivers significantly better picture quality, even with poor reception, and optimises energy consumption.
