Mitsubishi Introduces 56-Inch 4K Display

Mitsubishi Electric’s 56P-QF60LCU public display provides a native 3,840 x 2,160 resolution and more than eight million pixels on one screen.

The display delivers precise, natural images at a resolution that previously required ten XGA displays or five SXGA+ displays. It uses new Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment technology, which reduces viewing-angle dependency and provides detailed images across 88 degrees horizontally and vertically.

MVA technology also enables a response time of 6.5 milliseconds. Brightness of 500 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1,200:1 are intended to maintain a bright, high-contrast image in challenging daylight conditions.

The 56-inch unit is designed for 16:9 presentation of detailed images, graphics, and video in high-end applications. Uses include monitoring in control rooms, traffic-control centers, other command facilities, and outside-broadcast vehicles. Information previously spread across a multi-screen display wall can be consolidated on the 56-inch screen without sacrificing detail.

“In the past, this number of pixels required the area of several smaller screens and correspondingly more space. Our new 4K display lets users present large quantities of information on a single LCD screen with a clear, finely detailed image,” explains Lars Dörholt, marketing manager for Electronic Visual Systems at Mitsubishi Electric Germany.

The 56P-QF60LCU is also suited to detailed CAD drawings, satellite imagery, and maps. In financial applications, it can display large columns of figures clearly. Other possible locations include museums, libraries, and universities, where it can present digital images or data. It can also operate as a presentation, information, or public-viewing display.

An integrated scheduling function allows power-on and power-off times and signal sources to be preset. For changing digital-signage applications in shopping centers, airports, sports arenas, television broadcasters, or film production, specific content can be scheduled across as many as seven days.

During continuous operation, a motion function helps protect the screen and extend LCD-panel life by reducing image retention. Fan behavior and brightness can also be adjusted individually.
