More than 50 million players worldwide have registered for the Karlsruhe company’s free online games since it was founded in 2003. That enthusiasm for online games is clearly increasing is demonstrated not least by comScore’s figures: in January 2008 alone, almost 172,000,000 visitors spent a combined total of nearly two billion minutes on Gameforge’s gaming sites and remained captivated by the games. The reasons are obvious. Online games do not require expensive hardware or software, putting them in clear contrast to most conventional PC and console games. A browser with Internet access is all that is needed to become part of the worldwide online community. The Karlsruhe game developers deliberately dispense with purchase prices, monthly basic fees and expensive subscriptions. “Our employees are passionate gamers themselves and know what matters when developing new games,” says Alexander Rösner, CTO of Gameforge. “For us, the fun of playing comes first. That is why there is no annoying in-game advertising in our games.” The ‘Gameforge Fun Level Agreement’ also guarantees players server availability of more than 99.914 per cent.

Gameforge currently offers more than 25 online games. Whether gladiators in ancient Rome, settlers in ancient Greece or exciting space action.
