The SWR Administrative Board has approved a corresponding proposal from director-general Peter Boudgoust. The current head of Infrastructure Management at WDR will succeed Dr. Michael Rombach, who moved to NDR as production director in September 2007. Bareiß will take up the post on 1 May 2008.
Joachim Bareiß was born in Schorndorf on 3 July 1961. After completing a telecommunications-engineering degree at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, he began work in 1991 as a graduate engineer in SDR’s transmitter measurement department. He moved to NDR in 1993 and became deputy head of the Technology Staff Department within the Production Directorate in 1998. During this period, he contributed to the development of ARD’s digital channels and defined requirements for the ARD playout center in Potsdam.
Bareiß joined WDR in 1999 and took charge of the Program Distribution department. He led the North Rhine-Westphalia DVB-T project office and was responsible for introducing DVB-T in the state, including the management of all communications measures. When WDR consolidated its technical departments, he established Infrastructure Management as a technical service provider, consolidated the decentralized IT landscape, and was appointed head of Infrastructure Management in 2005.
