New software technology makes this possible. Already recognized with a Red Dot design award, the new navigation device will reach the market at the end of April 2008.
The NAVIGON 8110 promises a clear overview through the new Lane Assistant Pro and enhanced Reality View Pro, faster route calculation and shorter response times thanks to new software technology, and extensive multimedia connectivity through an integrated MP3 player, digital photo album, and FM radio transmitter.
A new highlight is Panorama View3D, which displays the complete route in three dimensions for the first time.
“With our new navigator, we are showing what defines a modern navigation device: technology and design perfected,” says Peter Scheufen, CEO of NAVIGON AG.
At the end of February, the device received an honorable mention in the internationally renowned Red Dot Awards.
The heart of the NAVIGON system is its new software. Panorama View3D continuously displays the road ahead in three dimensions, integrating mountains and valleys beyond the route realistically and showing bridges and tunnels along the way.
Reality View Pro reproduces complex motorway interchanges and the correct exits on screen. The new Lane Assistant Pro not only identifies the correct lane at the current junction but also provides a preview of the road ahead.
“This provides additional orientation—and therefore greater safety,” summarizes Jörn Watzke, vice president of product-line management at NAVIGON.
The latest-generation Bluetooth hands-free system makes connecting a mobile phone quick and easy. On command, numbers are transferred from the phonebook to the navigator’s memory. Address information from Microsoft Outlook can be imported into the navigation favorites list through the integrated USB port.
Text-to-speech, precise Voice Recognition Pro, and a clear menu structure are intended to make operation simple and safe. Once the town and street have been spoken, the NAVIGON 8110 handles everything else. The destination can be corrected immediately after it is announced.
Town, street, and house number are matched in a single query, so complete route planning requires only one press of a button. Voice Recognition Pro does the rest.
To render the new navigation functions quickly on the large 4.8-inch display, the NAVIGON 8110 contains a 533 MHz processor, 512 MB ROM, 128 MB RAM, and a separate graphics accelerator. The antenna for receiving traffic information is integrated into the charging cable.
The 8110 is the only device in the NAVIGON portfolio with access to the TMC Pro traffic-information service, with no additional fees.
The navigation unit also includes extensive multimedia equipment. Photos on an SD card can be viewed individually or as a slideshow in the digital photo album on the 16:9 display.
The NAVIGON 8110 is also a full-featured MP3 player. Music can be played through the built-in speakers, headphones, or the car radio. The FM transmitter carries all audio signals as well as the precise navigation instructions.
Lane Assistant, PIN-code theft protection, and a point-of-interest database containing more than two million destinations complete the navigation package.
The price is €449, including European maps covering 38 countries. For the first 24 months, the device can be updated with the latest map material free of charge. The new NAVIGON FreshMaps service guarantees a new update every three months. The NAVIGON 8110 will be available in stores from the end of April 2008.
