Dolphins and Whales 3D Draws Strong Opening

Dolphins and Whales 3D opens across sixteen German screens and draws 10,678 viewers during its first weekend.

With 10,678 admissions from only sixteen prints during its opening weekend, Dolphins and Whales 3D was described as Germany’s most successful 3D documentary to date. An average of 667 viewers per screen filled cinemas.

Dolphins and Whales 3D contains footage of whales and dolphins in the wild. The documentary advocates their protection and uses 3D to bring audiences close to different species. Capturing the material took more than three years, with filming beginning in June 2004 and requiring twelve expeditions and 600 hours underwater.

The film received its European premiere before 500 viewers at IMAX 3D Potsdamer Platz in Berlin on 10 March 2008. Film ambassador and special adviser Jean-Michel Cousteau attended alongside actress Martina Gedeck, who recorded the German narration, and director Jean-Jacques Mantello.

Jean-Michel Cousteau presents Dolphins and Whales 3D, directed by Mantello and produced by 3D Entertainment and McKinney Underwater Productions. In Germany, it is distributed by 3D Entertainment’s distribution division with Fantasia Film, in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals.
