Blu-ray Discs succeed DVDs for high-definition films and provide high image and sound quality.
Since Hollywood broadly selected Blu-ray in early 2008, the third-generation disc format has attracted extensive attention. MetaCom in Hanau has now demonstrated its use by regional companies as well as film studios.
For customer Singulus Technologies AG in Kahl am Main, MetaCom created a customer-information film and films about new Blu-ray Disc production systems and the manufacture of silicon and thin-film solar cells. The MetaCom team shot and edited two of the four films on the disc in HD. Sony DADC in Salzburg handled production control and Blu-ray authoring, with postproduction completed through Sony in London. MetaCom used a Canon XL H1 HD camcorder for professional 1080i recording. The project included Java menu programming and high-resolution 3D animation. Singulus produced the disc on its Bluline II line and distributed it to customers in Germany and abroad.
MetaCom describes the disc as an early regional application of the format. “We are always interested in applying new technologies that generate added value for our customers,” says managing director Bernhard Krause. “Blu-ray Disc allows customers to implement their quality requirements in this field as well.”
The project began in December 2007 and was completed at the end of February 2008.
