Pascal Wiederkehr, editor-in-chief, says: “Through several projects in games and community development, we have the experience needed to establish Playchannel.org successfully as a games portal in the German-speaking market in the near future.”
Playchannel offers news and articles covering all current platforms, including Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Games for Windows. Its main aim is to provide a portal where user ratings are considered as important as those from game reviewers commissioned by Playchannel. Players can compare the reviewers’ scores with the experiences reported by other players.
Roger Jud, creative director, says: “Realistic game ratings cannot be calculated using formulas. Every game is fundamentally different, even when it belongs to the same genre. Team Fortress 2 from Valve Corporation demonstrated this last year. It is a game that is better than previous titles in many respects, but its modern comic-style graphics unfortunately do not fit today’s review templates at all. That is why we are trying a different approach with Playchannel.org.”
A games portal naturally also requires a community. Under the motto “Gaming Meets Friends”, Playchannel therefore provides Gamers Club as a platform for friendly discussion.
Andres Lüscher, community manager, says: “With Gamers Club, we want to show that friendly discussions are possible in the gaming community without constant mutual insults.”
