These are reflected in three landmark decisions on fundamental principles.

The first is the Commission decision from Brussels, which allows public-service broadcasters to participate in the digital world in the spirit of technology neutrality; the second is the ruling from Karlsruhe, which expressly extends the public-service remit to the Internet; and finally, the KEF’s recommendation to support the public-service course with an increase in the licence fee in January 2009.

The other main topics of 2007 are the new news studio, due to go into operation at the end of 2008, migration and climate change. In addition, numerous contributions provide information on successful television films, video journalism, the ZDFmediathek, youth protection under scrutiny, European coverage during Germany’s Council Presidency, press freedom in Russia and much more.

The ZDF Yearbook is available for 13 euros (including VAT and shipping) directly from ZDF (Internal Communications, 55100 Mainz) or through bookshops.
