“The Red Baron” is a German film production starring Matthias Schweighöfer, Til Schweiger and Joseph Fiennes. It reaches cinemas almost exactly 90 years after the death of fighter pilot Baron Manfred von Richthofen on 21 April 1918.
From 1 April, extensive programme and trailer sponsorship by Warner Bros. Pictures Germany, together with special scheduling on DAS VIERTE and THE HISTORY CHANNEL, will prepare viewers for the forthcoming film. Programme highlights are presented by the film’s lead actor, Matthias Schweighöfer. The 27-year-old Bambi and Grimme Award winner recently recorded numerous introductions with DAS VIERTE and THE HISTORY CHANNEL to frame the scheduled programmes.
The warm-up for the elaborate new German adaptation about Baron Manfred von Richthofen is a 45-minute documentary on THE HISTORY CHANNEL at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 1 April, titled “People, Moments, Machines – The Red Baron and His Fighter Aircraft”.
The following Saturday, 5 April, DAS VIERTE continues at 3:35 p.m. with a making-of programme about the new film “The Red Baron”. One day before the cinema premiere, on Wednesday, 9 April, Matthias Schweighöfer presents the 1971 classic “Von Richthofen and Brown” on DAS VIERTE from 8:15 p.m. The elaborate 1971 aviation war film concerns the famous German fighter pilot of the First World War and his opponent, Canadian pilot Roy Brown. Roger Corman directed, with John Phillip Law as Baron Manfred von Richthofen and Corin Redgrave in the leading roles.
